General Membership Meeting Minutes, November 18, 2010

Meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m.

 

Thank you to Deborah Allen for providing goodies for the meeting.

 

Jeff’s Handouts and Announcements:

Jeff (and Laura) Jacobson unable to attend due to the impending birth of their child.

 

ROPE Officer’s Report:

ROPE officer Eric Echevarria introduced duty officers Lalley, Varga, and Pavoris to take any questions or concerns we might have.  Eric also reported the following:

1. Reminder not to leave cars running unattended, unless they have a remote starting system.

2. An update on the closure of the troubled Bowes Retirement Center

3. Report on a couple of other problem properties in the neighborhood

4. Eric also shared personal news about his brother appearing in a new film, directed by Eva Longoria.

Secretary’s Report:

Motion to approve the minutes of October 21, 2010 by Evan Hennessey, seconded by Deborah Allen. The motion carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report:

Evan Hennessey reported $50,863.22 in our checking account, $576.50 in our PayPal account, and $53,837.56 in our money market account.

 

Standing Committee Reports:

 

Membership

Chair Alicia Lykins not in attendance.  David Williams welcomed the Koldos family as new members.

 

Program

Chair Barb Counterman not in attendance.  No report.

 

Historic District

Chair Laura Jacobson not in attendance.  On her behalf, David Williams reported the following:

1. Host houses for the December 11th Wassailing Saunter holiday party were awaiting final confirmation.  A separate e-mail will be sent with final details.

 

2. Due to a lack of material, there will be no winter issue of the Gazette.  The next anticipated publishing date for the Gazette will be in February.

3. Garlands – we will be hanging garlands on Saturday, December 4th, starting at 9:00 a.m.  Volunteers need to dress warmly and bring ladders.  Plan to meet at the Leetz-O’Connor funeral home to pick up materials and assignments.

4. DNA Winter Window Wonderland – Julie Schmitt agreed to lead this year’s decorating committee.  To volunteer to assist, please contact Julie at:

Public Relations

Chair Dan Miller had nothing to report.

 

Housewalk

Bill Briska reported that several interesting ideas for the 2011 Housewalk were considered at the November 1st meeting.  Early planning will continue at the next meeting, slated for 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 29th at the Elgin History Museum.

 

Thanks a Lot! Turkey Trot:

Evan Hennessey reported that everything for the event was set to go.  (As of the typing of these minutes, the event has since occurred.  A separate e-mail will follow.)

 

Vote for 2011 Officers:

With no contested seats, Evan Hennessey moved that we hold a single vote to approve the following slate for 2011 elected offices.  Chris Bach seconded, and the motion carried.  The vote was uncontested.

 

The 2011 GPA officers are:

President – David Williams                             Vice-President – Karen Bach

Finance Director – Bill Briska                         Treasurer – Dan Miller

Secretary – Jennifer Williams                                    1st At-Large – Ali Hallock

2nd At-Large – Carol Anderson

 

A big Thank You to the outgoing officers for their hard work and contributions over the past year.

 

Other Comments & Concerns:

Deborah Allen suggested that GPA consider volunteering its support for preservation efforts (as necessary) for the Bowes property.

 

Glenna Preradovic indicated that the Pocket Park is in need of some maintenance.

 

Motion to adjourn:

Moved by Evan Hennessey, seconded by Evan Williams (per Jennifer Williams).

Motion carried.  Meeting adjourned at 7:54.

The next general membership meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 355 E. Chicago, Room 239.
